For adults who think babies are too cute and something special Discovery has a treat. 'World Birthday' will premiere on the Channel on 1 January at 8.00 p.m. It is a co-production of Discovery Networks International (DNI), TLC (The Learning Channel) and the Granada/New York Times Joint Venture.
The focus rests on twelve babies born around the globe on 5 July. The locations run the gamut from Beijing to one of the greatest cities in the world San Francisco. Discovery sent nine teams of video journalists to nine countries across five continents.

In Beijing a family has twins. Unfortunately the twins condition becomes critical and so the husband must come up with the cash to get the babies transferred to a specialist hospital.
The situation is a little worse in Nazareth, Ethiopia: A young, first-time mother experiences excessive bleeding after her son is born and requires a blood transfusion, but the hospital lacks the resources. In Brazil the child being born will not have a father. He was shot and killed in the hardware shop the couple owned.

Discovery Channel India was launched in 1995 and claims to reach over 21 million homes. The network offers a 24-hour parallel Hindi audio feed in addition to an English audio feed.
